new years celebration in sault ste. marie

NYC. Chicago. Detroit. Those are just a few of the places that come to mind when people think of New Year’s Eve.  But, why not consider Sault Ste. Marie this year?  Not only will there be a ball drop starting at 11:45 pm at the Northeast Corner of Portage Avenue and Ashmun Street, but there will also be kids’ games and crafts, along with snowshoe races and a cornhole tournament going on from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Kaine’s Rink.  And to help you warm up, there will be hot cocoa and other tasty treats!  Best of all, these festivities are free!

Now, if you’re looking to make NYE more of a date night for you and your significant other, there’s a couple different events going on.  The Ramada Plaza Ojibway Hotel has a nice surf & turf dinner going on, starting at 6:00 pm, and going until midnight.  The cost varies, depending on what all you get.  If you’re considering this, I would highly recommend making a reservation by calling the hotel, (906) 632-4100.  In addition to this event, Kewadin Casino is hosting a “Totally 80’s New Year’s Eve” party.  They’re offering a free champagne toast, along with tasty appetizers while it all lasts.  This event starts at 6:00 p.m., with the Spazmatics starting their performance at 10:00 p.m.  So, make sure to get there early to get a good spot!

Finally, I can’t forget to mention that this year is Sault Ste. Marie’s 350th Anniversary!  Founded in 1668, it is the third oldest city in the United States, which is pretty exciting if you ask me!  (I may be a bit bias, since it’s my hometown).  So, that’s all the more reason to celebrate 2018 in beautiful downtown Sault Ste. Marie!  To check out more details about all the festivities, be sure to visit http://www.saultstemarie.com/events-calendar/.

As you ring in 2018, no matter where you are, remember that your best is yet to come.  What’s in the past is in the past, so don’t look back at what could have been, but look forward to what can be.  Focus on the present and what you can do to make this year your very best one yet!  Take action, be patient, and most of all be persistent in that which sets your soul on fire!  Happy 2018, my friends!
