As most of my friends and family know, I’m a coffee connoisseur.  So, naturally, one of the first things I wanted to check out in Detroit was the best place to get coffee.  Now, I’m not talking about Starbucks or any of the other chains out there–I’m talking about the fun little hometown places.  After all, I’m all about supporting local and putting my money into quality over quantity, and I believe that is found in small businesses.

Now, if you’re like me, I check out reviews online, along with asking the opinions other fellow coffee lovers.  After checking out a few places, no one has been able to compare with Roasting Plant.  It sits on the corner of Woodward and Cadillac Square in Campus Martius.  That place is second to none–it’s where I always take my friends and family when they come to visit.  It’s not just their outstanding coffee, it’s the entire experience.  First, you walk in and see all the different kinds of beans in these large tubes that run up to the ceiling.  Next, you pick out which kind you would like and how you would like it made.  Then, you watch and hear them make it, as the fresh beans are shot through the tubes and down to the barista to make your drink.  It’s quite the process!  Everything is fresh, and you can definitely taste the difference.  It’s absolutely incredible!

I’m also really big on customer service, and they do a fine job of that.  Their baristas are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable about their coffee.  So, if you’re a bit overwhelmed by all the choices and unsure of what to get, simply ask one of them for help and explain to them what you like.  Or, as I like to do, ask them what their favorite drink is.  This is a fun way to get to know them and to try something new!
